Melanie is an accomplished Human Resources professional with more than 20 years’ experience providing leadership and guidance to executive teams and entrepreneurs. She’s been an HR leader for employers of all sizes–from large global companies to small manufacturing facilities and consults with business owners across diverse industries. Melanie’s enthusiasm for her field is reflected in her involvement with professional HR organizations locally and state-wide. She is the current Director of Diversity and Inclusion for CalSHRM.
Jennifer Thomas, PHR
As Director of Human Resource and Benefits at O2 Employment Services, Jennifer provides solutions and strategies in the fields of HR, employee relations, policies, legal compliance, benefits and health care insurance options for the company’s diverse client base, representing hundreds of businesses in the state of California, Oregon and Nevada. Jennifer spent over 20 years in the Medical field, as an Administrator in both private and corporate settings. Jennifer has found her passion in helping people through training, education and engaging employee – employer communications.
Terri Hill, SHRM-SCP, SPHR
Terri is the Human Resources Manager for the Walmart Distribution Center in Red Bluff. Her experience spans 20+ years in all aspects of Human Resources in varying industries within Healthcare, Manufacturing, and Supply Chain. Doing the right thing, honesty and connecting through relationship building are her strongest skills. She enjoys helping others find solutions to best fit the outcomes they desire.
Nancy Van Voris, SHRM-SCP, SPHR
Recently retired after 30 years in the Human Resources profession, Nancy remains an active member of the board. She served as President in 2012, 2013, & 2014 and currently takes on extra projects, assists with the annual conference, and enjoys helping her fellow board members whenever needed. Her depth of knowledge and enthusiasm is appreciated by all who know her. She keeps current on HR issues and is certified both SPHR and SHRM-SCP.
Leah began her Human Resource/Office Management Career in the construction industry in 1997. Accomplishments include a bachelor’s Degree in Business and Human Resources, Professional Human Resources Certification (PHR), Group Benefits Associate Certification (GBA), and Certified Employee Benefits Specialist Certification (CEBS). In 2011, she joined the local Joint Powers Authority (STSIG) where she manages pooled health benefits for local public-school districts in Shasta and Trinity Counties.
Miley Imlach, SHRM-CP, PHR
Miley is the Manager of Human Resources and Compliance at Owens Healthcare. She possesses over 12 years of human resources experience in a broad variety of industries varying from waste management to healthcare. Miley is passionate in ensuring that Human Resources is seen as a strategic business partner within the organizations that she’s worked.
Nikki started her career in Recruitment and Staffing in 1999. She has been an active member on our board for the last 6 years as our Membership Director. Through Nikki’s and the boards efforts, we have grown our membership over 50% in the last 3 years to 180 members strong. Her passion is connecting our local business leaders with Northstate SHRM to help them stay informed, network and to provide them with the resources to make their companies a great place to work. Currently, Nikki is the Branch Manager for Adecco Staffing in Redding.

Spearheads chapter involvement in the community to promote outreach and employment of military veterans and service members. Partners with EDD, local colleges, CalSHRM, state chapters and other veterans organizations.
Informs, coordinates and leads certification outreach and study groups for SHRM Certification.
Terri has 20+ years of human resource and management experience that spans across multiple industries and business life cycles. She has a passion for building teams and creating a culture that will develop leaders and engage employees. Terri enjoys mentoring HR professionals and recently volunteered to be a CalSHRM certified instructor for the SHRM-SCP and SHRM-CP prep courses.
Terri has been an active board member for six years. She volunteers on the Northstate SHRM Conference Committee and the CalSHRM Legislative & HR Conference Committee.
Director of Workforce Readiness
As Director, Workforce Training and Development at Butte College, Annie is responsible for providing quality performance consulting and workforce training programs. Annie has over 22 years of experience in local government, academic, and corporate environments both as a Senior Vice President, Global Training and Development Leader and Certified Industry Trainer. Since joining Butte College in 2008, Annie has facilitated Butte College Contract Education’s performance consulting and training services programs now serving 11,500 local employees with customized on-site employer training for over 100 employers.
Derek Parsons, RHU
Legal and Legislative Director
Derek graduated from California State University, Chico, earning a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with an emphasis in Entrepreneurship. He also earned the Registered Health Underwriter (RHU) designation, focusing on Group Benefits Plans, Self-Funding, Benefits Compliance and Health Maintenance Organizations.
Derek grew up in Northern California and lives here to enjoy the outdoors. His wife motivates him to participate in the North State CrossFit family. He is a certified PADI Open Water Diver, certified Range Officer for United States Practical Shooting Association and a Certified HAM Technician. Mostly, however, he values being a husband and father of two young children.

He has over 15 years experience training and developing staff from small startups to mid-sized non-profits to larger for-profit organizations. Jason uses consultations, workshops and authoring numerous books to help leaders create higher levels of engagement and productivity with their teams.
